Who Am I?
Hi Im Ruth Castillo!
I was born and raised in Long Island, NY. I grew up in a big hispanic family. Raised in a christian household I learned the importance of my faith and beliefs in my everyday life. My art mainly speaks of this; To create and express myself, and make a change in the viewer.
Artist Statement:
My beliefs and faith have always paved a way in my life. Sculpting the person I become everyday. Creating themes and topics derived from the Bible and my faith. Through my beliefs I bring this into the painterly form for others to view this narrative. My purpose is to highlight the areas of my faith that are usually deemed “not important”. Usually when someone creates Christian based art it is the most typical narratives. But my goal is to expand that perspective through a different style. As time goes by as an artist, I continue to allow myself to explore ways to create a story. Most of my paintings are done with acrylic paint. Using glazing methods and thick application of layers. Vibrant and opaque hues, to create an otherworldly feeling. Occasional use of absorbent ground, prints done in kozo paper and recycled paper to create texture. My goal is to execute biblical stories and verses while portraying peace and comfort through my art. A sense of warmth and guidance. Trying to find oneself in this spiritual place. And transcending into the spiritual world that portrays Christianity into an abstract/ imaginative form.
